Flamenco refers to a body of song, dance and guitar music associated with andalusia
in Southern Spain. Though it's origins are uncertain, flamenco reveals an array of
influences including arabic, jewish and gypsy. Historically the music of the oppressed,
flamenco is charactized by emblished melodies, polyrhythmic guitar playing and stylized movements.
Rhythmically complex and melodically provocative, this musical form possess a quality of
improvisation found only in jazz music. Intense and animated, flamenco not only expresses
the suffering of generations but also extols the joys of life.
